Smell Gas? What to do

IF YOU SMELL GAS (rotten eggs / sulfur — even if faint)

-LEAVE           

-CALL

 

1. GET EVERYONE OUT NOW:

• ​Alert everyone. Take people and pets with you.

• Leave immediately. Do not look for the leak.

• Leave the door open as you go.

• Walk out. Do not use the garage-door opener or start a car nearby.

 

2. CREATE NO SPARKS:

• ​Do not turn lights on or off.

• Do not use a phone, doorbell, flashlight, or remote inside.

• Do not smoke, strike a match, or use a lighter.

• Do not try to shut off the gas or fix anything.

 

3. CALL FROM OUTSIDE: From a safe distance:

• ​911

• Your gas company — Phoenix / Southwest Gas: 877-860-6020 (24/7)

 

4. STAY OUT: Do not go back in until the fire department or gas company says it is safe.
