Our Heritage: A Legacy of Plumbing Excellence Since 1856

 

At Tankless Pros and Water Heater Pros, our story begins more than 170 years ago with a commitment to quality craftsmanship that still defines us today.

 

In 1856, Bavarian immigrant Franz Johann Fehn settled in the growing German community of College Point, New York, and founded the family plumbing and heating business that would become WM. F. Fehn & Son, Inc. His work supported the industrial growth of an era when College Point was rapidly transforming from farmland into a thriving suburb.

Over the generations, the business passed to Franz’s sons, including William Frances Fehn, and later to his grandson, Sidney Melbourne Fehn. In 1925, Sidney formalized the company and expanded its focus to reliable installations of water heaters, steam boilers, and related systems. By the mid-20th century, the firm operated from its original College Point location at 212 Thirteenth Street (now part of modern 13th Avenue after Queens’ street renumbering) as well as a branch in St. James, Long Island.

In 1961, the Fehn family relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona. New York operations closed, and a new chapter of the family’s plumbing tradition began in the Southwest—one that continues today under Tankless Pros Water Heaters (Phoenix, AZ) and Water Heater Pros (Sacramento, CA).

In 1979, Sid started his own plumbing business in Scottsdale, Arizona—carrying forward a family tradition that began when his great-grandfather founded a plumbing company in New York in 1856. That long commitment to the trade shaped Sid into a passionate, highly regarded professional who provides every type of water heater service, including gas tankless and electric heat pump units.

Every job is handled with care and respect for the customer. Sid takes water heaters seriously. He specializes in gas tankless systems while offering complete expertise across the full range—from traditional tank-style water heaters (still found in roughly 79% of homes) to ENERGY STAR hybrid (heat pump) models that continue to grow in popularity.

Sid has visited numerous water heater factories and regularly attends industry trade shows to stay current with the latest products and design trends. His technicians are factory-trained in professional installation, service, and repair. By focusing exclusively on water heaters, Sid has built strong relationships with suppliers. High sales volume allows him to purchase quality units by the truckload at the lowest available prices—passing those savings on so customers receive top-quality equipment at prices far below the competition.

It is now time for Sid to step aside and let the next generation take the lead. He is proudly handing the family legacy down to his children and family members who will carry it forward.

At the Phoenix location, Victoria (Sid’s daughter) serves as Manager, supported by family members Matthew, Andrew, and Adam, along with other dedicated team members who are truly like family to us. In Sacramento, our family team includes Steve and Chrissy, joined by employees who are equally valued as part of the family.
